Gutsy Genius Thinker

“If you believe something to be true about the world, then act on it. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise because you know, oftentimes, the mob is wrong.”

Mitch Presnick

Raleigh, USA

Mitch’s Facebook page is titled “Mind-Energy-Focus,” which reflects the essence of EI + BI in three words. As a GGT and an intentional lifelong learner, he brought a freedom of thought and insight to our Interviews that can benefit us all. His energy is infectious. As you engage with his interview, The Adapters will provide a seat belt for you to strap in as you go along for the ride.

Mitch is Director and Partner with Marco Polo Pure China Fund and holds an MBA from the Rutgers Graduate School of Business in Newark, New Jersey, a graduate diploma in Chinese language from Peking University in Beijing, and a BBA from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He is fluent and literate in Mandarin Chinese. He’s a prominent American business commentator in Asia and a permanent resident of Hong Kong and Raleigh, North Carolina, in the USA. He has spent over 28 continuous years operating in Chinese business circles. Mitch realized that China had immense opportunity and brought the concept of branded franchised economy hotels to that country. As Founder and former Chairman and CEO of Super 8 Hotels (China) Co., Ltd, he launched Super 8 in China in 2004, which grew to over 1,100 hotels. Prior to Super 8, Mitch served as China’s country manager for Edelman PR agency. He played an important role in bridging business relations between the USA and China as the former Vice Chairman American Chamber of Commerce in China. I think you get the gist. Mitch has adapted and innovated in some of the most competitive markets in the world.

Mitch’s Adapters Tips

  • Start thinking about what it is you offer that AI or machine learning can’t deliver
  • Best-mover advantage is when the timing is right—when everybody else has taken their shot and either succeeded or failed
  • Making sure you take 20 minutes to meditate every single day to separate yourself from your emotions and reconnect to yourself
  • One thing that we know about the sharing economy, it’s that getting customers to use something better is easy
  • Once an organization gets to a certain size, it’s not in their interest to innovate, because to innovate, they’re disrupting themselves
